Pathetic State of Hospitals in Hyderabad

The Andhra Government has released an additional amount of Rs. 55 crore for the completion of the 450-bed Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) inVisakhapatnam, this is in addition to the Rs.120 crore that has already been spent in the construction of the super speciality hospital. This hospital with the latest in medicare will supplement the medical services provided by the King George Hospital. The foundation of VIMS was laid down in January 2007 and in less than three years this super speciality hospital is nearing completion. Contrast this with the state of Medical Health in Hyderabad state, in the last 50 years no Government hospital has been established in Hyderabad, all Government hospitals in Hyderabad districts were set up prior to its forcible merger with Andhra. As against this the Government has set up atleast one General Hospital in all the Seemandhra districts.
Not only this, the Government hospitals in Hyderabad, like its industries were managed into sickness and disrepute by the Seemandhra management. A case in point is the Osmania General Hospital and the NIMS. The condition of Osmania Hospital is worse than the Nazi ghettoes., there has been no upgrading of its equipment, nor advancement in the method of treatment. It lags behind in the services it provides, and is ill equipped to treat any major illness, and has been reduced to a hospice care provider that cannot cure and can only provide support for the dying and the destitute. The story of NIMS is vastly different, it has 2 faces one for the underprivileged who are herded into wards akin to Nazi ghettoes, and the other for the powerful jailbirds who come to its portals to escape prison sentences like Raju of Satyam and Lagdapati of Lanco.
The condition of other hospitals like Niloufer and the Government Maternity home, cannot be described, infested as they are by vermin and lacking in even the basic medical facilities, they are the refuge of the down trodden citizens of Hyderabad state. These insitutions which at one time were the beacons of hope have been progressively reduced to functioning as referral hospitals for the Corporate set ups. There has been a hidden agenda in running down these Government hospitals, their demise was devised to provide for the growth of the Private Corporate Hospitals in Hyderabad, which have been promoted and managed by the Seemandhra’s.
One of the first tasks of the State of Hyderabad will be to provide quality health care for its citizens. Towards this a Multi Specialty Government Hospital will be set up in each of the 10 districts, and each and every village will have a Primary Health Care Center to cater to the medical needs of its citizens.
Jai Hyderabad. Jai Hind
